The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is set to launch an independent lunar space station by 2040. According to recent announcements, ISRO plans to launch the Bharatiya Chandrama Antariksh Station within the next 20 years enhancing ISRO’s role in the global space economy.
Recently, Dr. S. Somanath revealed ISRO’s ambitious timeline for future space missions, such as Chandrayaan-4 and the Bharatiya Chandrama Antariksh Station, marking India’s significant advancements in the space exploration sector.
ISRO has allocated a budget of Rs 2,104.06 crore for Chandrayaan-4 and raised its space exploration capabilities with the upcoming Gaganyaan mission. The Gaganyaan mission, which will be India’s first human spaceflight, is scheduled for launch no earlier than 2025. ISRO will begin uncrewed test flights for the Gaganyaan mission by the end of this year.
As per the Indian Defence Research Wing (IDRW), the Bharatiya Chandrama Antariksh Station will orbit the Moon, gather essential data for future lunar missions, and support long-term lunar exploration. It will also collaborate with other countries to study the lunar surface, focusing on analyzing the Moon’s structure and enabling resource extraction.
India achieved a historic milestone on August 23, 2023, when Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the Moon’s south pole. This mission allowed ISRO to become the first organization to accomplish this feat.
Chandrayaan-3 studied the Moon’s icy, unexplored south pole, providing valuable data on seismicity, thermo-physical properties, plasma environment, and elemental composition of the landing region. With missions like these, India consistently takes bold steps to explore the universe’s mysteries and accomplish challenging tasks, contributing significantly to the scientific community.
